Kendra and David Patton always knew their family would be unique, but their journey became even more profound when they adopted Isaac and Maeli from China. The Pattons did not hesitate when they were told that both children had been diagnosed with beta thalassemia major, a genetic blood disorder that requires lifelong blood transfusions and ongoing medical care. Instead, they made a commitment to provide their children with the best care possible.
Isaac, now 12, is passionate about STEM, Pokémon, and gardening, while Maeli, 11, finds joy in dance and spending time with her siblings. The Pattons’ lives revolve around medical appointments, transfusions every few weeks, and infusions at home, but they never let these challenges define them.
When they relocated to South Carolina in 2022, Kendra discovered Clement’s Kindness through a simple brochure—and that moment changed everything. The organization not only provided vital support but also opportunities for Isaac and Maeli to simply be kids. From ice skating events to summer camps, these experiences have brought them joy and a sense of belonging.
One of Isaac’s proudest moments happened at Camp Courage, where he caught what he insists was the biggest bass the camp had seen in years. That memory still brings a sparkle to his eye.
For the Pattons, Clement’s Kindness represents more than just assistance—it creates a community that understands, supports, and uplifts. As David puts it, “It’s kindness for families, kindness for children. It gives them a chance to be kids and know they’re not alone.”
